SHOW AND TELL - Is it important or a waste of time?

Show and Tell is a classroom activity where a child is encouraged to chat about a theme topic covered at school.

Initially, many children are shy to speak in front of a group, but with perseverance and encouragement, the following skills are fostered:

  • Development of effective communication skills that encourage descriptive language, storytelling, and concept thinking.

  • Develops effective social skills such as respectful listening skills, i.e. keeping quiet and allowing a friend to share with the group and taking turns.

  • Extends the child’s general knowledge and recall memory.

  • Builds self-confidence and self-esteem.

  • It sets the stage for children to become comfortable when speaking in front of people. This has the added benefit of giving the child confidence when asking or answering questions in class.
